You have all heard the expression Fake It till You Make It. Today, we’re going to come up with a new one: Bake It to Fake It. Now that summer is upon us it is great to get outside, slather on that SPF 60 and get some sun on your skin. Even though you are wearing some strong sunscreen, you will still end up getting a nice tan (since SPF 60 blocks 98% of UVB rays). But what about all of us sitting at a desk all day, working away and missing out on that great sunshine? Much to the chagrin of every dermatologist “out there”, we are going to talk about tanning salons. If you are pressed for time, or the only time you can get outside is with the werewolves and vampires, the tanning salon may be your only choice for a little color on your skin.
Although indoor beds do pose some health risks, there are also benefits associated with tanning if using indoor tanning lotions and moisturizers. The lotions hydrate your skin and can also accelerate tanning. This way, you may only have to go a few times to get that sun-kissed look. There are also many lotions available now that contain vitamins and nutrients to maintain skin health and prevent dryness.
Another thing that tanning salons offer is “red light therapy,” and I don’t think any dermatologist would be mad about that – it’s great for your skin. Red light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses red and near-infrared light to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. Salons are offering red light beds to help customers with scarring and skin issues like eczema. Here are a few other benefits:
- It can improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and address issues like acne scars by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.
- It can help reduce pain and inflammation, potentially by increasing blood flow to reduce the inflammation.
- By increasing blood flow and stimulating cell growth, the therapy will help with faster and more effective wound healing.
- Some studies suggest it may also be beneficial for hair growth, pain relief, and muscle recovery.
Let’s look at a “tanning-related” manufacturer that covers multiple brands that appear in the Co-Op Connect Platform:
Brand Name – Product/Service – High-Level Guidelines
New Sunshine, LLC – Tanning products (UV lotions)
These guidelines apply to their Australian Gold, California Tan, Designer Skin, JWoww, and Swedish Beauty brands. This program also applies to Wolff Lamps (for the beds). Co-op funding is available for online advertising only at 100% reimbursement. Salons earn anywhere from 5% (for lamps) to 15% for lotions, based on their current-year purchases.
