Help your advertisers use their co-op funds to promote their special sales on Small Business Saturday, which is November 30th! As of March 2024 there were 33.3 million small businesses in the United States. Let’s look at some key small business statistics that may help you create a great campaign(s) for your advertisers to promote their Small Business Saturday sales. We realize that most of these sales are holiday related, however it helps to have current information on small businesses as you might come up with a great “tie-in” between the local business and the national brand(s) they are selling.
Small Business Stats
- Small businesses make up 99.9% of all U.S. firms. They are also responsible for almost two-thirds of newly created jobs in the U.S. between 1995 and 2021.
- Texas is home to one-tenth of all small businesses in the U.S. It is followed by California (9%), then Florida (9%) and Georgia (6%).
- Women own around 26% of all small businesses, and 14% of small business owners are Black, Hispanic, or Asian.
- Around half of all small businesses start at home, and 60% have no staff or employees. That means around 19 million businesses are home-based.
Now you may read that last “stat” and think, “Well, those businesses probably don’t have co-op funding,” but that is not true. Think about all the landscape businesses that people run out of their homes and use a variety of brand-name fertilizers, pest control products, and more. Some folks have even remodeled a portion of their home and opened hair salons. Again, many brands offer co-op if you are selling shampoos and conditioners to your clients. With any small business, the first question you should ask this advertiser is, what are the top 3 items you sell? Once you obtain that information, finding out if they have available co-op funding is very easy. Some brands may not have a formal co-op program but may be more than willing to offer MDF (Market Development Funds) to help businesses sell more of their products.
Below are a few different types of products that offer co-op funding that you might not usually think about. Thousands of brands are listed in the Co-Op Connect platform for just about every vertical you can think of. This is a great time to help your advertisers promote these brands (and more)!
