Let’s turn those lights on and get some co-op funds for your lighting retailers! In the month of October, we focused on home improvement brands that tackled outside improvements. With the upcoming holidays, we are going to focus on indoor home improvement brands so that folks can “spruce up” for those upcoming holiday parties. The proper indoor lighting can make or break the look of any room. You may want to use lighting to highlight artwork on your walls, or light up under (or over) to show off your new kitchen cabinets. It may simply be a case of not having many windows in your home and wanting to brighten things up…the possibilities are endless!

Let’s look at a few Lighting Tips that you may be able to incorporate into some great ad campaigns.

Lighting Tips

  • Current trends seem to focus on natural materials like wood and rattan, mixed-material fixtures such as matte brass, and large sculptural fixtures that make a statement. Large-scale pendants, especially over kitchen islands and dining tables, are making a big comeback.
  • Lighting is also becoming smarter and more “invisible” with integrated LEDs and smart dimming technology to provide convenience and control (I love my Lutron app on my phone – don’t have to move from where I am sitting to lower/brighten/turn off my lights!).
  • Instead of relying on a single overhead light, homeowners are using multiple sources to create a more dynamic space – think recessed lighting on the border of the kitchen, with several pendant lights hanging over the island.
  • A really fun look is using bulbs in various shapes. Gone are the days of a round lightbulb. The bulbs now come in every shape imaginable and really provide an interesting look when hung, pendant-style, in a row over a kitchen island or table.
  • Another great look is the LED, geometric lighting design, which works well if you’re looking to design a contemporary room. There are also LED bedroom lights that can be placed along the bottom of the bed frame, along the top of your curtain rods, and along the ceiling in just about every color imaginable.
