If you have been following the Thursday co-op posts for October, you will notice they have all been about outdoor house repairs/replacement/, and maintenance before the cold weather sets in. The article for this Thursday is all about paints, caulks, and sealers, and getting your decks, patios, and houses painted and sealed up tight for winter!
Below are a few “Paint/Sealant” facts that you may be able to use to create some great ad campaigns for your customers.
Outdoor Paint and Sealant Facts
- Prioritize the painting or sealing of exposed wood, concrete, and exterior trim around your home. This prevents moisture from getting in, which can cause cracking, warping, and rotting during freeze-and-thaw cycles.
- For Wooden Decks and Fences: apply a high-quality, weather-resistant stain or sealant to create a protective barrier. Stains allow the wood to breathe, which helps with mildew and rot. However, if your fence is already painted, you may need to add another protective layer of paint.
- For Exterior Trim and Siding: Inspect your home, looking for any chipped or faded paint on trim, siding, and doors. Either a bit of touch-up or a fresh coat of durable, weatherproof paint will keep things looking their best.
- For Concrete and Masonry: water that seeps into cracks in concrete can expand when it freezes, causing structural damage. Repair any cracks in concrete, such as sidewalks, driveways, and patios. Then, apply a protective sealant to the hardscape to be all set for winter.
