It’s that time of year to help your Pool and Hardware Store customers in utilizing their co-op dollars for all things “water related”. By that we mean in-ground and above ground pools, pool chemicals, spas and hot tubs (and of course those chemicals), along with all the pool related toys. You just need to have a couple “noodles”, floats, life vests for both the kiddos and the dogs, and more! If you can get that pool and hot tub open quickly you will have plenty of time to BBQ and get that first cut of the season done on your lawn this Memorial Day (you didn’t think you were going to rest, did you?)!
Let’s look at a few Pool/Hot Tub related facts that you may be able to incorporate into some great ad campaigns:
Pool/Hot Tub Facts
- There are approximately 6.1 million residential inground pools in the U.S. Florida and California lead the nation in total installations. The average inground pool will cost you between $45,000 and $87,500 depending on materials, size and location. Fiberglass and vinyl liner pools are more affordable, while custom concrete (Gunite) pools are at the higher end. The average cost of chemicals for an inground pool ranges from $300 to $800 per season but can exceed $1,000 for heavily used pools. On average prepare to spend $100-$200 per month during swimming season. Saltwater pools are generally cheaper for chemicals, costing roughly $70 to $200 per year, compared to traditional chlorine pools.
- There are approximately 4.3 million residential above-ground pools in the U.S. Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania and New York are the top states for above-ground pools. The price ranges from $2,500 to $10,500 for the kit and professional installation combined. The basic pool kit runs between $1,500 to $4,500 with the installation adding $1,000 to $3,000. Total costs can exceed $10,000 for larger, premium, pools or wood stairs and decking for around the pool. Chemical prices for above ground pools generally cost between $30 to $50 per month, again having a saltwater pool lowers that bill.
- There are approximately 7.3 million hot tubs in use across the United States, with portable hot tubs, including inflatable and rotomolded – plug and “play” styles leading the pack. There is anywhere from 200,000 to 225,000 sold annually and that is due to popularity. They have quick setup times, lower upfront costs and you have the ability to move them around.
