If you have HVAC customers, this is the ideal opportunity to assist them in utilizing their co-op funds. This is the time for their customers to get their furnaces checked before the “deep freeze” sets in! For homeowners, there is nothing worse than a furnace going out on a minus-2-degree day, as chances are you are not the only one having a problem, and good luck getting it fixed that day. Folks are better off getting their furnace checked out and necessary repairs/adjustments made before they ever get to that “very cold” day!
Let’s look at a couple of furnace-related facts. There may be something shown in the list below that you can use to turn into a great campaign for your advertisers.
Furnace Facts
- The average furnace lasts 15 to 30 years, with gas furnaces lasting 15 – 20 and electric furnaces lasting 20 – 30. Once you hit that 15-year mark, you should start researching a replacement even if yours is still working. Regular professional maintenance (I see a good ad idea here), can significantly extend the life of the furnace.
- Higher thermostat settings are not the only thing that can increase your monthly energy bill. An older, less efficient furnace will also cost more to operate than the newer high-efficiency models.
- Annual furnace maintenance typically costs between $100 to $300 for a single tune-up, with the average being $200-$350. This normally includes the following: inspect and clean the key components, like burners and coils; Checking and cleaning the air filter, blower motor and fan blades; test safety controls and carbon monoxide levels; Lubricate the moving parts and tighten electrical connections; Check for gas or CO leaks; adjust fans and belts.
- The homeowner can do their part to keep things running smoothly by checking their furnace filter monthly. Replace it as needed, with a typical recommendation being every 3 months. You may want to replace the filter more often if you have pets, allergies or have done recent renovations which may have created lots of dust. One thing to remember is that the thickness of the filter can also require more frequent changes.
