October is Audiology Awareness Month, which is a great time to tie co-op funding into your ENT/Audiologist/Hearing Aid store customers. The timing is also great as a lot of folks have Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts, and those funds may expire at the end of the year. This is a perfect time to promote hearing aids and flex care spending!
Here are some facts about hearing aids:
- According to the World Health Organization (WHO), of the 466 million people worldwide who suffer from hearing loss, it is estimated that 34 million are children. It also estimates that 1.1 billion young people (between 12 and 35) are at risk of hearing loss due to exposure to noise in recreational settings. Loud noise is the most common cause of hearing loss. Noise from lawnmowers, snow blowers, or loud music can damage the inner ear. Loud noise also contributes to tinnitus (or ringing in your ears).
- Hearing aids will not affect your lifestyle. There are hearing aids that are so small that they cannot be seen. There are also hearing aids that come in various hair colors and skin tones so they match. There are now water-resistant hearing aids. People I know complain that it is hard to hear (a lot of echo noise) when in large groups of people. They have now created multi-directional microphones to help you hear conversations in front of, to the side of, and behind you.
- I know we all buy many of our products online, but this is not recommended for hearing aids. You want to ensure a proper fit, the proper style, and customization is required, and that is where an ENT or audiologist specialist is needed.
