We really aren’t that far past Christmas (and all those bills for presents!) and we already have a couple more upcoming holidays that you can help your customers promote while using their co-op funds. For 2026 we have Valentine’s Day on the 14th, followed by President’s Day on the 16th. I look at Valentine’s Day as buying something for others, while President’s Day may be about buying something for yourself. For instance, so many stores have huge sales on mattresses and furniture for President’s Day. If you have been getting poor sleep, or are waking up with a backache every day, this may be the perfect time to invest in a new mattress. So, after you go out and buy those flowers, chocolates, or jewelry for a loved one, you can head back to the store for a new mattress or a new recliner (great for Super Bowl watching!) for yourself.

Let’s look at a few Jewelry/Mattress Facts that you may be able to incorporate into some great ad campaigns.

Valentine’s Jewelry Facts

  • In 2025, Americans were projected to spend a record $6.5 billion on jewelry, making it the top gift category by value for Valentine’s Day. Just guessing that 2026 may be even a higher amount.
  • The top jewelry items center around “classic symbols of love”, with heart-shaped jewelry (think pendants) being number one, followed by diamond studs, and solitaire necklaces/earrings.

Mattress Facts

  • In the U.S. alone, approximately 30 to 36 million mattresses are sold each year. The annual volume for mattress sales is $15-$18 billion!
  • The most popular mattress firmness sold is the medium firm. It suits the majority of people, including back sleepers and those in the average weight range of 130-230 pounds. It’s not too hard to cause pressure points, nor is it too soft to cause sagging. This is the firmness that is used at almost all hotels.
