It is almost the 4th of July weekend, so with this warmer weather people all over the country have been putting toes in the water (and other body parts on the sand!). Some of these folks are lucky enough to have a boat to put in the water as well!

One in ten U.S. households own a boat – there are 17 million recreational boats in the U.S. Which states have the most boats? Below is a list of the top 10 states along with the number of vessels registered in these states.

  • California – 1,051,606
  • Michigan – 1,000,337
  • Florida – 922,597
  • Minnesota – 834,974
  • Wisconsin – 650,280
  • Texas – 624,390
  • New York – 592,732
  • Ohio – 413,276
  • Illinois – 398,431
  • South Carolina – 383,971

Why does this information matter to you? You can see that this is all over the country and not just concentrated “out west” or “down south”, etc. This is not even taking into consideration all the states that have plenty of smaller lakes/waterways where smaller motorboats, speedboats, kayaks, and other personal water vehicles are used. If you have any advertisers (customers) in the “boat business” – such as marinas, boat stores, and hardware stores (think of all the supplies needed on boats!), they most likely have plenty of co-op money to spend. Since boats are not cheap, if the dealer earns a 2% accrual amount on each boat purchased, they are “stacking up” money fast!!

Below are just a few of the “boat brands” listed in the Co>Op Connect database:
