Memorial Day weekend is a great time to help the advertisers you work with spend their co-op money. The first reason is that there are so many brands that relate to the holiday, and the start of summer: think pools, outdoor furniture, all things “landscaping”, motorcycles, BBQ grills and much more! The second reason is that we are almost at the halfway point of the year. That means that your advertiser has probably placed several orders (since the start of the year), for a variety of brand name products from the manufacturers or distributors they work with, which in turn has earned them lots of co-op advertising dollars (their accrual fund).

Memorial Day weekend is famous for cleaning out the flower and vegetable beds (and getting ready to plant again), opening that pool or hot tub, and basically doing a huge outside “cleanup”! The other thing it’s famous for is all the great BBQ options. For a lot of folks, this is the start of BBQ season, and it is no longer just hot dogs and hamburgers on those grills – people really get creative. But with all the advances on the grills, you can basically BBQ spaghetti these days! Let’s look at different style grills:

Types of Grills/Smokers

Propane Grills – they use a 20-pound propane tank, good for about 25 hours of grilling time before needing to be replaced. They heat up quickly and are easy to use, requiring little cleanup. Temperatures reach between 400 and 600 degrees, and you can regulate heat with temperature control knobs. Multiple burners can create different heat zones for searing, cooking, or warming foods.
Pellet Grills – wood pellet grills are popular for providing the best qualities of both charcoal grills and the best gas grills. They can be used like convection ovens at a variety of temperatures from about 160 to 600 degrees. Plus, the food takes on the distinct wood-smoked flavor of pellets made from wood such as hickory, mesquite, pecan, and apple.
Kamado Grills – a ceramic egg-shaped barbeque of Japanese origin. You can grill, smoke, roast, and cook all your food together or separately with this grill.
Charcoal Smokers – For those folks who love a deep smoky flavor, a smoker is for you! It cooks the food at a lower temperature for a longer period of time. You can purchase a charcoal, electric or propane smoker. Chips, chunks, or pellets of “flavored” wood provide authentic flavors. The most commonly purchased smoker is the charcoal version.
Electric Grills – these are usually smaller in size and a great choice if you live in an apartment or condo where gas or charcoal grilling may not be permitted. Marinades or liquid smoke can make up for the absence of cooking flavors provided by grills that use other fuels.
