What exactly is Leap Year? In short…it takes approximately 365.25 days for the Earth to orbit the Sun – which is a solar year. As you know, we round the days in the calendar year to 365. To make up for the missing “partial day,” we add one full day to our calendar every four years. Now, what does that have to do with Co-op advertising? Since Leap Year only occurs every four years, many brands and businesses “get into the spirit” of the day by offering special promotions and sales. Not only do some brands offer extra deep discounts on February 29th, but they may offer discounts the entire month of February as part of the “celebration.” Another special holiday can tie into these promotions/sales…Valentine’s Day! Here are two great reasons to get your clients moving now on their February advertising and help them use their co-op funds in the process.

This is the time of year we start seeing sales on Appliances, Electronics (got Super Bowl too!), Home Decorating, Restaurants and of course Jewelry for Valentine’s Day. Below are just a few of the brands that offer co-op funding for their reseller network. Hopefully, you have clients selling some of these brands:

Brand Name – Product/Service – High-Level Guidelines

  • Le Vian  – Jewelry, Timepieces, Colored Diamonds, and Gemstones
The co-op guidelines apply to all six of their various brands: Bridal, Chocolatier, Couture, Exotics, Red Carpet and Time. Accrual fund is based on current year purchases with Gold level earning 2%, Platinum earning 3% and Diamond earning 5%. Reimbursement is 50% for traditional/digital advertising.
  • Pandora Jewelry – Jewelry
The accrual fund is based on prior year purchases and must be spent quarterly. Reimbursement is 50% and Online, Print, Radio and Outdoor advertising is eligible. TV is not as Pandora runs strictly National Campaigns.
  • LG Electronics Corp. – Home Entertainment Products & Appliances
LG offers co-op funding but will not share guideline details with third parties. However, the Co-op Connect platform contains contact information for you to obtain guidelines with your customers.
  • Whirlpool Corp. – Kitchen & Home Appliances
The co-op guidelines apply to the Amana, KitchenAid, and Maytag brands as well. The accrual fund is earned on current-year purchases. The reimbursement rate varies based on the type of media purchased (this data appears in the guidelines in Co-op Connect) but starts at 50% and goes up to 100%.
